Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word that means “yolk” or “union”.
In the Vedic literature many texts have been written on various types of Yoga.
Although Western culture has viewed Yoga as stretching exercises or mere physical postures, Vedic science of Yoga incorporates body, mind and the spirit. Yoga incorporates postures (Asanas), breath work (Pranayama) sensory methods, affirmations, visualizations, mantra and meditation.
Similar to prescribing physical therapy for certain conditions, Ayurveda incorporates Yoga as part of the health plan of prevention and treatment and has specific Yoga postures and routines/exercises indicated for specific diseases.
