Overweight is a result of excess Kapha dosha. Unwanted weight and the Kapha dosha share similar properties such as heaviness, slowness, coolness, oiliness, smoothness, dense, and soft. In order to pacify the excess Kapha in the body, individuals must incorporate opposing properties such as light, sharp, hot, dry, rough, liquid, and mobile into their daily routine.
Individuals with excess Kapha should implement 4 key habits during the day:
-
10-15 minutes of daily yoga practice (the longer the better if you have the time, especially 10-12 rounds of sun salutations
-
Eating 3 nourishing meals throughout the day: a good balance with the meals can ensure adequate digestive fire throughout the day to properly process, digest, absorb, and assimilate nutrients and maintain good metabolism
-
Exercise 3-4 times per week
Individuals with excess Kapha and being overweight can be reversed naturally with time through PanchaKarma (Whole Body Natural Detox). PanchaKarma therapy honors and uses the individual’s unique physiology and biochemistry to heal, The name PanchaKarma means “5 actions” which Ayurveda uses to purify and cleanse the body of anything and everything foreign to it. Each procedure will address the specific dosha imbalances and ama (toxins) which accumulate over time. The goal of PanchaKarma is to establish healthy energy levels, strengthen and support the immune system, restore proper digestion and rebuild the body.
