Pitta’s predominant qualities are hot, penetrating, sharp, and oily. similar to the qualities of summer.The best way to keep Pitta balanced throughout the summer is applying opposing qualities such as cooling on a daily basis. It’s best to also engage in calming activities and encourage positive thought flow and affirmations. By combining calming activities with a healthy diet and herbs, individuals can prevent aggravating symptoms and conditions due to excess heat during the summer season.
Pitta-Pacifying Diet Guidelines:
Enjoy:
- Foods that are naturally sweet, bitter, and astringent
- Cooling foods
- A balance of whole, freshly cooked foods and fresh, raw foods
- Cooling herbs and spices like coriander, cilantro, fennel, mint, dill
- Dairy, if tolerable
- A moderate amount of high-quality olive, sunflower and coconut oils or ghee daily
- Routine times for your meals
- Eating meals in a calm environment
Avoid:
- Foods that are pungent, sour, and salty
- Warming foods
- Chili and cayenne peppers
- Highly processed & packaged foods
- Caffeine, nicotine, and other stimulants
- Red meat
- Deep fried foods
- Alcohol
